Getting there

Atlantic Park Surf is at Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA.

The technology

Atlantic Park Surf runs on Wavegarden Cove, a electro-mechanical system from Aizarnazabal. The Cove uses 46+ independent electro-mechanical modules along one wall. Each module pushes a submerged panel; sequencing the pushes creates a travelling swell that peels down the reef bay. Software controls the panel firing pattern, so a Cove can shift from a mellow Waikiki roller to an overhead barrel between waves.

Atlantic Park Surf opened in 2025 as the anchor of the Atlantic Park development at the Virginia Beach oceanfront, a project backed by Virginia Beach native Pharrell Williams. It is the first Wavegarden Cove on the US East Coast, bringing 1,000-waves-per-hour capability to a city with a century of East Coast surf culture.
