The technology
RiF010 runs on Surf Loch, a pneumatic system from Palm Springs. Surf Loch is a pneumatic (air-driven) system where controllers energise caissons along the wall in software-defined patterns. Combined with the pool bathymetry, Surf Loch can render everything from Waikiki whitewash to overhead slabs. The team is led by former CT surfer Cheyne Magnussen, and the setting menu at Palm Springs Surf Club reflects that, every wave setting was tuned by someone who's ridden the real thing.
RiF010 opened in July 2024 in the Steigersgracht canal in the heart of Rotterdam, the world's first wave pool built into a city center. Named after the local beach break and the city's 010 dialling code, it runs on Surf Loch pneumatic technology and pairs surfing with a beach bar and restaurant on the canal.
