The technology
Lost Shore Surf Resort runs on Wavegarden Cove, a electro-mechanical system from Aizarnazabal. The Cove uses 46+ independent electro-mechanical modules along one wall. Each module pushes a submerged panel; sequencing the pushes creates a travelling swell that peels down the reef bay. Software controls the panel firing pattern, so a Cove can shift from a mellow Waikiki roller to an overhead barrel between waves.
Lost Shore Surf Resort opened in September 2024 in a reclaimed quarry at Ratho, 20 minutes from Edinburgh. It is Scotland's first wave pool and one of Europe's most complete surf resorts, pairing a Wavegarden Cove with waterfront lodges, a spa, restaurants and events space. It has quickly become a fixture for Scottish surfers who previously depended on the North Sea.
