URBNSURF Melbourne runs on Wavegarden Cove — a electro-mechanical system from Aizarnazabal. The Cove uses 46+ independent electro-mechanical modules along one wall. Each module pushes a submerged panel; sequencing the pushes creates a travelling swell that peels down the reef bay. Software controls the panel firing pattern, so a Cove can shift from a mellow Waikiki roller to an overhead barrel between waves.
Opened January 2020 as the first commercial Wavegarden Cove in the Southern Hemisphere. Sits on 2 hectares next to Melbourne Airport. Damon Tudor's team pushed URBNSURF as a training venue for Australian WSL athletes — the Beast Mode setting is a QS-caliber wall and hosted the URBNSURF QS 3000 in its opening year.
Sessions run from AUD $49 (beginner Waikiki with board and wetsuit) up to AUD $125 (pro-caliber Beast Mode). Wetsuit hire is included in every session.
