Wave pool careers, answered

+What jobs exist at wave pools?

A surf park is an aquatic venue, an industrial plant, and a hospitality business stacked on one site, so the job list is longer than most people expect. The visible roles are surf coaches, lifeguards, wave operators, and guest services staff. Behind them sit maintenance technicians and engineers who keep the wave generation system, pumps, and filtration running, plus kitchen, bar, retail, and events teams. Above all of that are duty managers, general managers, marketing and media staff, and project directors on parks still under construction.

+How much do wave pool jobs pay?

Pay tracks the local aquatic and hospitality market with a premium for wave-specific skills. In North America and Australia, lifeguards commonly start around 18 to 26 an hour and coaches around 22 to 35 an hour. Maintenance technicians earn more, often 28 to 45 an hour, because wave system experience is scarce. Salaried roles run roughly 55,000 to 85,000 for operations and duty managers, and 95,000 to 160,000 for general managers at larger parks. European parks tend to pay a lower base across longer seasons.

+Do I need surf experience to work at a wave pool?

For coaching, yes. Coaches need real surfing ability plus a teaching credential such as ISA Level 1 or 2 and current first aid. For everything else, surf experience helps but is not the gate. Lifeguards need a current lifeguard award and comfort working around a moving wave train. Maintenance needs a trade or engineering background. Hospitality, marketing, and management roles hire on the same qualifications any strong venue would want, and plenty of staff learn to surf after they are hired.

+Which wave pools are hiring right now?

We track 27 wave pools worldwide, 10 of them open today, and we list the openings we can verify. Right now there are 6 live roles on this board across 6 pools. Because roughly 17 more parks are in construction or permitting, pre-opening hiring waves are constant: new sites recruit managers and engineers first, then coaching, safety, and hospitality teams in the months before the gates open.
