Surf Lakes Confirms First North American Site

The Australian central-plunger wave pool signs a Texas developer for its first US commercial install — five simultaneous waves from one piston.

Surf Lakes — the Australian tech that produces five distinct wave zones from a single central plunger — signed its first North American developer this month. The site: 40 acres of former ranchland outside Fort Worth, Texas, with commercial opening targeted for 2029.

How Surf Lakes actually works

One giant central piston rises and falls inside a circular lagoon. Every plunge sends a concentric wave ring outward, and shaped bathymetry breaks that ring into five different breaks around the perimeter: an overhead reef, a longboard point, a beginner reform, an intermediate wall, and a shortboarder's air section. Five simultaneous sessions from one pump.

  • ~Peak throughput: 240 waves per hour, spread across five breaks.
  • ~Footprint: 5-hectare lagoon (vs. a Cove's 2 hectares).
  • ~Only running commercial site to date is 5 Waves at the Yeppoon demo pool in Queensland.
